Academic

My academic and training experience spans the past 10 years in which I have experienced the challenges and rewards of developing and educating students, staff and professionals.

I have a proven track record of developing quality programs and implementing learning methodologies that support the highest level of instruction. My business relationships with corporate industries and professionals ensure the programs are in sync with today’s technological and intellectual demands, and my focus on faculty development and student success has delivered a high percentage of student retention and employment.

My success is through the collaboration of support staff, faculty and students. Without this collaboration over the years, I as a director, and as a learning team member, would not have had the many successes with adult learners.

Inspiration

One of my inspirational sources is Fink’s text, Creating Significant Learning Experiences. An excellent source, the prescribed methodology and integrated approach to the educational experience significantly improves the learning experience.

I do however, feel it's missing important components that are inherent to the experience. There are organizational aspects that academic directors and other administrative personnel deal with daily that directly impact what happens in the classroom.

We need another layer in Fink's model that embraces commitment, quality and resources, to fully communicate the interrelated aspects that impact education and organizational effectiveness.

Commitment  - I strive for dedication and promise to deliver quality experiences as a director and as a teacher. I always work with the commitment to an organization’s vision and mission to provide the best learning experience possible. I do this through:

  • Managing collaborative efforts with faculty and students allowing for the success of student learning, retention and career placement
  • Communicating directional changes in the institution's vision, managing to balance high-level institutional change and in-class, curriculum delivery with faculty and students
  • Working through difficult situations with professionalism and consideration to cross-functional changes in expectations, deliverables, and organizational support

Quality - Change impacts behavior. My goal continues to be maintaining quality delivery in the classroom through:

  • Motivating and supporting faculty in diverse classroom situations and student needs
  • Facilitating student interaction and assessment of learning accomplishment to outcomes
  • Engaging faculty team collaboration to develop program curriculum changes due to industry changes as well as institutional changes. Collaboration creates challenging and competitive programs  with updated, relevant curriculum and course plans

Resources – Investment changes as direction changes. Understandably resources are impacted as economy impacts the organization and managing priorities key. I have successfully managed resources by:

  • Prioritizing faculty development and technology advancements for course outcomes
  • Working with cross-functional teams during budget/expense planning
  • Presenting supporting research and industry feedback for program tools
  • Communicating program tool advancements to students and cross-functional support teams
